Fishing boats by the shore

£320.00
Sold Out

A lovely coastal oil from Sweden with clean lines and vivid colours and a great vintage original frame.

You will wonder what the naked man in the last photo is doing on our website…well, this painting is the work of Einar Bager, a Swedish artist, historian and illustrator born in Malmo in 1887. He spent a lot of time in the village of Mille which, by the end of the 1800s, was one of Sweden first seaside resorts (and most likely the subject of this painting). In 1910, Bager was 23 years old and was photographed by his father whilst naked painting a nude model. The photograph became viral after @museumbums shared it on Instagram.

Signed and dated 1950. 54.5cm x 46cm.
